What does it mean to be through? To pass through a passage, a membrane, or an experience. In one side, out the other. Changed, for better or worse, or just finished. David Shaw’s work has always dealt with liminal spaces, thresholds, and borders, but more directly, it has dealt with how arbitrary these limits can be — how distinctions blur upon examination, how categories meld, and how possibilities open up. Through. is a sculptural exploration of these ideas aimed at asking, “How do we know what we know?” and possibly, “How do we feel about that?”
