Surrealist Pop-up

November 15 - 17, 2023

November 15 – 17, 2023

This Surrealist Pop-up of student and faculty work complemented the Department of Theater’s production of the Surrealist play Victor, or Power to the Children (original title: Victor, ou les enfants au pouvoir) by Roger Vitrac, performed November 10-15, directed by Simona Giurgea. A key masterpiece of surrealist theatre, the play premiered in 1928 at Theatre Alfred Jarry in Paris under the direction of Antonin Artaud, one of the most influential theatre theorists of the 20th century. The playwright, Roger Vitrac, was one of the founding members of the surrealist movement and one of the signatories of André Breton’s First Manifesto of Surrealism.

The pop-up included work by Lakshmi Luthra, students in DeWitt Godfrey’s Public Art class, Lynette Stephenson’s Assembly Required class, and Lakshmi Luthra’s Analog Photography class.
