Sandra Kogut
Colgate/Flaherty Global Filmmaker in Residence

Sandra Kogut joined Flaherty NYC curators Genevieve Yue and Chris Stults for a wide-ranging conversation about her work, documentary film, and the state of contemporary cinema. A Brazilian filmmaker, Kogut’s work reflects the complexities of global migration and urbanization. She also challenges the notion of a global filmmaker by straddling many divides – moving regularly between Europe, the US and Latin America – and creating work that combines documentary and fiction forms, art and cinema contexts, and intertwines historical and ocontemporary conditions. Her works have been screened at the Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim Museum, the Harvard Film Archive and the Forum des Images (Paris), among other venues.

Aura Satz

London based Aura Satz’s work encompasses film, sound, performance and sculpture. Satz has used various technologies as the subject of her work, including mechanical music, phonograph grooves, dial tones, optical sound and early color film. She is particularly interested in the complex intersections between history, technology and the aesthetics of media, exploring their ability to they change human perception and agency. Satz’s work also focuses on female figures excluded from mainstream historical discourse. Satz has performed, exhibited and screened her work in national and international venues including the Tate Modern, Tate Britain, Barbican Centre, ICA, BFI Southbank, Whitechapel Gallery, the International Film Festival Rotterdam and the New York Film Festival.
